Qualifying draw and wildcards announced
As in previous years, the qualifying draw was announced the Friday before the start of the event. Again this year, the qualifying tournament of the J&T Banka Prague Open delivers a very strong field. A mix of young, up and coming players, as well as a few more experienced players who have already put together solid careers will fight in the qualifying rounds. One match that will feature a clash between generations will take place in the first round, when Marie Bouzkova, a local 19 year old, will face Patty Schnyder, a 39 year old former world number 7. Stefanie Voegele, the highest seeded player in the qualifiers will face off against Valentyna Ivakhnenko of Russia, while the 2nd seed, Miyu Kato, will play against another Czech player, Tereza Martincova. To qualify for the main draw each player will need to win three matches.
Earlier today, Petra Cernoskova also announced the remaining 2 wild card entries to the main draw. The first spot went to Daria Kasatkina of Russia, who will become the 3rd overall seed in the main draw. The second wild card was awarded to Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, a Slovakian who won a tournament in Bogota just two weeks ago.
First round matches of the qualifying will be played tomorrow and entrance for spectators is free of charge.
